I am 21. i have never applied make up ,but now i want to. i started using Kaajal (eye liner) jst three years back. apart from kaajal i use nothing else. i dont want to use heavy make up on daily basis. pls advice me as to what to apply/use daily while going to college. it will be better if u let me know the brand too. i hav no idea at all regardin lookin good....pls help !I have never applied make up. i am 21. can u help !?

Im 19 and I haven't got a clue too. So I went to a MAC store and told them that I wanted to fix whatever flaws I had and how to apply most makeup. The lady helped out a lot and I learned a lot of tips. I did not buy anything at MAC because they are pricey so I went to a small makeup store, I got to try on their samples in my color and bought 5 - 10 dollar foundation, concealer etc. that worked great. I also use everyminerals.com you can buy the sample kit and just pay $3 for shipping as many times as you want. They have great brushes that aren't expensive. You can also go on Youtube and type in ';Makeup Tutorials'; I learned A LOT from the makeup gurus on there.

Use mascara and curl your eyelashes - that's all I do most days (I'm very lazy). But if I want to make an effort, I'll wear light foundation over primer, with blush, bronzer and maybe lip stain or gloss, along with eye liner, shadow and mascara.
I recommend MAC products - they're affordable, quality and ethical.
Go to the mall and have a make over done in one of the stores; you'll get good ideas for makeup application.
I don't know where you live, so these brands that I'm recommending to you might be pointless.
I live in California in the U.S. and this is what I suggest:
To make your eye color pop, use Almay's special eyeshadows. (link at the bottom). For a natural look, get brown or brown/black eyeliner. In pencil form. And apply to the upper lid right above the lash line. Liquids crack, look more fake, and are messy and harder to apply.
You always want to moisturize your face too.
If you don't want heavy makeup, just wear a powder. Liquid foundation is not necessary. A mineral powder will be good for your skin.
When trying to find your right shade, don't apply the foundation or powder to your hand or wrist. Apply it to your jawbone right above your neck. Your hand and face colors are different.
Curl your eyelashes with an eyelash curler for extra lengt. NEVER curl your lashes while the mascara is still wet cause you might rip out your lashes! Always curl them before you apply the mascara. But if you want even more curl, curl them after the mascara has dried completely.
Brands that I recommend are bareMinerals (mineral makeup that gives you a nice natural look), Almay (a really good drugstore brand), and Neutrogena is also another good drug store brand.

Well, since you've just started, I'd suggest just using the eyeliner, like you said, but also mascara.
Depending on your skin tone, you could use black, brown, or clear. Clear is nice because it subtly defines your eyelashes, but if it gets somewhere besides your lashes, it's obviously not noticeable. Be very careful using black mascara, for these reasons: like any colored mascara, it can get clumps, but it's most noticeable in black; and sometimes it just looks plain bad on some people. Before you wear it in public, try it out at home. To reduce the clumping, always sweep it up from root to tip, and move the brush from side to side as you do so. That helps the brush evenly distribute the mascara. Before you apply, wipe the tip of the brush against the lip of your mascara tube so you don't get too much on there. You can always layer if you want more. You could also wipe it a bit with a tissue. Another thing about mascara - always replace your mascara after you've used it for...oh, maybe a month. If it changes its texture from smooth to crumbly, or it starts to smell different than it did when you bought it, it's time to part with it.
As for your eyeliner, a good blended line from the inner corner of your eye to the outer corner on the top (maybe a smidge longer) is best. You can leave the bottom off, but I wouldn't suggest it if your eyeliner is dark (again, the choice is yours, but the ';rules'; of eyeliner are similar to those of mascara colors.) If you don't apply to your top lid, you should try it. It's not that hard. :D Let the line go from thinner to wider (only slightly) as you go from the inside corner to the outside corner. This also applies to the bottom lid. You can also go half that length, from the middle of your lid to the outside corner, but make sure that line is blended and softened with a small brush so it doesn't look harsh or odd. Blending is best for the full line as well.
Also, just to throw this in, don't use an eyeshadow color that exactly matches the color of your eyes. Big no-no. It makes your eyes less noticeable. Instead, use complementary colors and colors that accent your clothes. Blue looks good with varying shades of blue and brown. Green looks great with browns and purples. Brown looks good with warm tones like gold as well as light browns that help your irises pop. Hazel eyes you can get especially creative with, depending on the mix. If you have those, you can always go to someone at a makeup counter in a mall and ask for a little help choosing the right colors.
